We would like to thank you very much for your support in voting for Father Mauricio Camuto, from Radio Ecclesia and O Apostolado newspaper/website, for the Guardian Achievements in International Development Award. The prize was awarded last night (Thursday, Nov. 19th) in London to Marguerite “Maggy” Barankitse, who runs Maison Shalom, a home for children in Ruyigi, Burundi. Maggy was the only female shortlisted for the award and the work she has been doing in her country deserve our praise and admiration. The five candidates received 9000 votes.
Although the result was not the one we were expecting, we are very happy that Father Mauricio was chosen as one of the five finalists among 100 very strong candidates from all over the world. His profile is featured in a special supplement distributed last night at the event, which took place at the Fine Rooms of the Royal Academy of Arts. His name was also announced in the evening as someone who has worked beyond his call of duty to make sure Ecclesia remains independent and the “voice of the voiceless” in Angola. This process has been a unique opportunity to highlight his work, raise awareness about the situation of freedom of expression and human rights in Angola and make visible the Christian values and good practices that fights for a world where everyone can live a full life, in justice, peace and plenty, free from inequalities.

Gostaríamos de agradecer o seu apoio na candidatura de Padre Mauricio Camuto, da Radio Ecclesia e jornal/website O Apostolado, para o Prêmio Guardian Achievements in International Development. O prêmio foi entregue ontem à noite (quinta-feira, 19 de Nov) em Londres a Marguerite “Maggy” Barankitse, diretora da Maison Shalom, um lar para crianças órfãs, em Ruyigi, Burundi. Maggie foi a única mulher na votação final e o trabalho que ela desenvolve merece a nossa admiração. Os cinco candidatos receberam, ao todo, 9 mil votos.
Apesar de não ser o resultado que esperávamos, estamos muito felizes que Padre Mauricio foi escolhido entre os cinco finalistas entre 100 fortes candidat@s de várias partes do mundo. Um perfil foi publicado num suplemento especial que circulou no evento, realizado nos Fine Rooms da Royal Academy of Arts. O nome de Padre Mauricio também foi citado durante a entrega do prêmio como uma pessoa que trabalha além de seus limites, para assegurar que a Radio Ecclesia mantenha-se independente e que continue sendo “a voz dos sem voz” em Angola. Este processo foi uma excelente oportunidade para destacar o trabalho de Padre Mauricio, chamar a atenção do público sobre a situação das liberdades de expressão e dos direitos humanos em Angola e dar visibilidade às boas práticas e valores cristãos que lutam por um mundo onde tod@s possam usufruir de uma vida por inteiro, com justiça, paz e fartura, sem desigualdades.
